Grizzlies Take Care Of Firestorm

Phoenix, AZ- Playing on the neutral courts of Grand Canyon University, Arizona Christian lost 7-0 to NCAA Division I University of Montana on Tuesday.  Sophomore Alberto Lapiedra and Senior Seth Moore actually won their doubles match but against a DI opponent doubles play counts as one point.

Play started on the doubles courts and the action actually finished in numerical order.  Lapiedra and Moore rolled on court one with a 6-2 score.  Courts two and three concluded with scores of 6-1 and 6-2 in favor of UM to give them the team point.

In singles action, the Grizzlies (8-6) won the first two matches completed on courts four and five with scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3.

On court one, Lapiedra went down 6-2 in the first set.  But in the second set he forced an extra game to be won as he fell 7-5.

Court six featuring Moore saw extra games in both sets including 7-6 in the first set.  In the second set, Moore fell 7-5.

Sophomore Enzo Douillac dropped the first set 6-4 but responded by winning the second set 6-2 on court two.  But the third set ended up with the same result as the first set- Douillac coming up short 6-4.

The final match playing on the day was a two set marathon on court three as Junior Marcelo Balderrama was going swing for swing with UM's Yannick Schmidl.  The first set ended up 6-4.  Set two went down to the wire as Schmidl held on for a 7-6 win.

On Friday, the Firestorm (11-6) will take on Idaho State at the Phoenix Tennis Center.  The 12:00 pm match will be the final home match for the ACU Seniors.
