Box Score 2 La Mirada, CA- On Friday, Arizona Christian returned to GSAC play as they traveled out of Arizona for the first time this season. Their match with The Master's came down to the fifth set before ACU fell 3-2 (25-23, 21-25, 18-25, 25-21, 15-10). Junior Jackie Stein had 16 kills and 12 digs.
After falling behind 3-0 to begin the night, the Firestorm (9-4, 1-1 GSAC) never could forge a tie as they dropped the first set. However, set two saw ACU allow the first point before rattling off seven straight points thanks to kills from Senior Debbie White and Sophomore Amanda Bakonyi and two kills by Stein. ACU did not look back as they lead for the remainder of the second set.
Stein recorded eight of the 16 ACU kills in the second frame.
The third set played much closer as the teams exchanged eight ties and five league changes. However, down 16-15, Bakonyi and Senior Alli Lemnitzer recorded kills in a three point span to grab the lead. The Mustangs (4-7, 1-1 GSAC) logged six straight hitting errors to cap the 9-0 Arizona Christian run. ACU rolled out the block party as they recorded four straight blocks (Lemnitzer was involved in all four) during the string of TMU hitting errors.
ACU forced 13 hitting errors in the set.
Holding onto a 9-8 lead, Arizona Christian saw their lead and the set slip away as The Master's used 5-0 run to move ahead for good in the fourth set.
In the final set, the teams played out to a 9-9 tie. But a kill by Junior Breanna Scott was the only point that the Firestorm would score in the final seven points of the night.
Scott concluded her evening with 14 kills. Senior Hailey Carpenter doubled up with 34 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore Delaney Harris was good for a match high 25 digs.
On Saturday, the Firestorm will meet up with number five Westmont. First serve in Santa Barbara is scheduled for a matinee time of 2:00 pm.
