Box Score Phoenix, AZ- A combined 44 points from Junior Torrian Epps and Senior Sam Finley was not enough for #23 Arizona Christian to slow #5 The Master's as TMU won 89-76 on Thursday night. Epps scored a game and ACU career high 25 points.
In a matchup featuring the top two offenses in the GSAC, scoring did not seem like it would be a problem for the teams.
The Mustangs (17-1, 3-0 GSAC) hit two three pointers within the first 63 seconds of the contest. Senior Matt Willkomm connected on a three pointer to find ACU down 6-3. Senior Patson Siame and Finley hit back-to-back shots to bring ACU within one at 8-7.
TMU moved ahead by eight before Finley converted his lone three pointer of the game to get ACU within one at 24-23 with 7:28 left in the first half. Finley then scored the last six Arizona Christian points of the half to create the 43-39 halftime score.
Finley produced 13 of his 19 points in the first 20 minutes before scoring the first two points of the second half to make the score 43-41 TMU.
But any thoughts of comeback were erased when the Mustangs used the next six and a half minutes to outscore the Firestorm 19-0.
Despite 16 second half points by Epps and Junior Carter Wilson contributing 11 of his 13 points after the break, ACU could not overcome TMU shooting 48.6% from the field for the game.
On Saturday, the Firestorm (12-4, 0-2 GSAC) will host Westmont in Fultz Memorial Gym at 4:00 pm.
