Glendale, AZ- After a nail biting regular season meeting, Arizona Christian surged past William Jessup 5-0 in the opening round of the GSAC playoffs on Saturday afternoon.  The Firestorm advance to the GSAC semifinals.  Freshman German Lopez scored two goals in the win.

The win is the first ever GSAC playoff win for ACU Men's Soccer.

The Firestorm outshot the Warriors 20-13 and 10-1 shots on goal. 

Lopez broke a 0-0 tie with a goal two and a half minutes before the half.  The Firestorm exploded for four second half goals.

COACH BELLEMAN SAYS…

"I am so proud of the team today!  The circumstances around the game were very different but they did not let it affect them.  I think it is the most complete game we have played all season or at least in a while.  It is great to get our first conference tournament win and now we are looking forward to the semis and a huge game against a very tough Master's team.  We have been working for this all season and I know the team will be ready to go!"
 

NEXT TIME OUT

On Thursday, the Firestorm will have the opportunity to play in the new Orange County Great Park soccer stadium.  The third seed Arizona Christian will meet up with the second seed The Master's with match time set for 4:00 pm (Pacific)/ 5:00 pm (Arizona).
