One Lead Change, ACU Beats SDCC

Box Score

Phoenix, AZ- After a rough start, Arizona Christian responded by taking the lead once and not looking back as they beat San Diego Christian 68-54 on Wednesday evening.  Junior Makayla Enders scored a game high 25 points.

The game could not have started much worse for the Firestorm (17-4, 6-2 GSAC) as they opened the game 1-11 from the field with five turnovers.  ACU then made three straight shots and closed the gap to just 13-11.

For the Hawks (7-15, 0-8 GSAC), they scored the last two points of the first quarter and the first two points of the second quarter to build a 17-11 lead.

But ACU used a 10-0 run to move ahead.  Freshman Sierra Stephan started the run with a three pointer.  Enders scored four of the points including a jumper to give Arizona Christian an 18-17 edge- which turned out to be the only lead change of the contest.

After ACU went ahead by nine, SDCC shrunk the deficit to just four (28-24) at the break.  SDCC's Danna Robles was the only player to reach double digits in the first half with 10 points.  Enders topped ACU with eight points.

The lead grew as large nine again in the third quarter but was five at the quarter break.

With 2:31 to play, the score was 59-54.  Arizona Christian threw a shutout the rest of the way and added nine points down the stretch.

Enders poured in 17 second half points and produced a 14-15 effort at the free throw line.  Junior Jac Moody was next with 12 points on the strength of 8-10 shooting from the charity stripe.  Junior Courtney Christmas added 11 points.  Junior Jada Willingham matched her jersey number with 10 points.

Robles ended with 21 points for San Diego Christian.

Three point shooting was not the specialty of either team on Wednesday as they combined to shoot 3-33 from behind the arc.

On Saturday, the Firestorm will find themselves at Vanguard for a 2:00 pm PT/ 3:00 pm AT start.  The Hawks will host Hope International at 5:30 pm PT.
