Phoenix, AZ- Participating in the Cody McBride Invitational, Seniors Kendrick Murphy and Adrian Releford added to their ACU record collections as they both broke a school record they already owned.
Junior Tanner Hilton had the best showing on the track as he posted two season best times with efforts of 2:04.59 in the 800m race and 4:30.39 in his 1,500m run. Freshman Jared Valadez also ran the 1,500m distance (4:49.73) but became the first ACU athlete in several years to challenge the 3,000m steeple chase (12:53.21).
Freshman Carlos Parra-Cihak ran 15.66 in the 110m hurdles and a new personal best 57.02 in the 400m hurdles.
The Firestorm only took part in one relay- the 4x100- and Sophomore Alias Sturges, Murphy, Junior Jerardo Samarripas, and Sophomore Joe Avance III raced around the track once in 43 seconds flat.
Murphy cleared 6'4" in the high jump to set a new ACU record and finish third. He also traveled 44'6.75" in the triple jump (third place).
Sturges returned for three field events- high jump (5'10"), long jump (21'2.5"- third place), and triple jump (44'0.5"- fourth). Freshman Billy Carter was in the long jump and triple jump events as well.
Releford lead the charge in three of the throws. He sent the shot put 39'.25" and then the discus 119'3". But then a heave of 97'4", Releford extended his school record. Freshman Matt Totah did the same three events and set new personal records in all three.
Junior Jordan Leary delivered the javelin 149'7"- his personal best.
The men will travel to Irvine, CA, for a one day event held at Concordia Irvine on Saturday.
