Los Angeles, CA- Arizona Christian Men's Track had a busy three days as they actually appeared in three meets over a three day span. The highlight was Sophomore Zak Kleppe running at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships before joining his team for two events in California.
Kleppe, ran in the qualifiers of the 60 meter hurdles at the NAIA Indoor Nationals on Thursday in Pittsburg, KS. He posted a time of 8.49 but did not advance to the finals.
The primary event for ACU track was the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational that took place in Jesse Owens Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
Five guys ran in the 100 meter races. Senior Kendrick Murphy ran a team best 11.10. Sophomore Joe Avance III finished his 100 with an 11.18 before recording a 22.50 in the 200 meter race.
Sophomore Alias Sturges had the best ACU 400 meter time with a 51.84- his first collegiate effort at that distance.
Junior Tanner Hilton lead the charge in the distance runs with a 1,500 meter time of 4:34.30 while covering 5,000 meters in 18:05.63.
Not missing a beat, Kleppe ran the 110 meter (15.17) and 400 meter (55.33) hurdles.
Event three that ACU participated in was the El Camino Invitational where the throwers put in their work. Junior Jordan Leary claimed first place in the javelin with his best effort of 143'1". Senior Adrian Releford and Freshman Matt Totah both threw the shot put, discus, and hammer.
The Firestorm will have two weeks off before competing in the Willie Williams Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson.
