Firestorm Fall Short In Season Opener 80-68 To The Argos

Box Score

Glendale, AZ. - The Arizona Christian University women's basketball team (0-1) dropped its season opener to the University of Providence (2-1) on Wednesday evening, 80-68 inside the ACU Events Center.

Thoughts from Coach:

After the game, Head Coach Rusty Rogers said, "Really proud of our effort tonight but, obviously, not the results. I felt we had to work like dogs to get points on the board but allowed them to score at the free throw line and off of defensive miscues. We have to clean up our game to compete with our difficult schedule and we have to connect at a higher percentage when we have open shots. We'll learn and grow from this game!"

Game Details:

The Firestorm jumped out to an 8-2 lead just three minutes into the first quarter, but the University of Providence responded with an 8-0 run to take a 10-8 lead. The Firestorm fought back to take the lead at 13-11 but the Argos rallied to close the quarter on an 11-0 run to take a 22-13 advantage at the end of the first. That big run ended up being very important as the rest of the game was a tight affair with the Argos maintaining a mostly double digit lead throughout the rest of the game as they won 80-78.
