Firestorm Take Down Unbeaten Redhawks

Box Score

Glendale, AZ - The Arizona Christian University women's basketball team (5-2) handed Benedictine Mesa (5-1) their first loss of the season as the Firestorm ran away with a 74-60 victory on Tuesday evening at the ACU Events Center.

Thought's From Coach:

After the game Head Coach Rusty Rogers stated, "Once again we failed to put together a consistent effort from start to finish. Fortunately, we had fantastic efforts from our young quarter of Alyssa Alvarez, Kaycee Brown, Graciela Roybal, and Sophia Martinez that helped us seal the victory. I'd like to see more consistency in our play as it seems every time we pull away from our opponents we allow them to climb back in games. I'm confident we'll get there."

Game Details:

The game was back and forth early on in the first quarter, but the Firestorm took control late as they closed the quarter on a 9-0 run powered by six points from Alvarez to take a 23-13 lead at the end of the first. The second quarter was a turnover filled one as neither team could really establish a run with the Redhawks outscoring the Firestorm 11-9 to decrease the Firestorm advantage to 32-24 at halftime. The third quarter was all Firestorm as they continued to build their lead to 51-40 at the end of the third. The Redhawks tried to comeback, but the Firestorm shut them down not allowing their lead to slip under nine points as they pulled away to win 74-60. Brown recorded a double double and Alvarez and triple double in the victory.
