Alvarez Puts Up 30 To Lead Firestorm Past Park Gilbert

Glendale, AZ. - The Arizona Christian University women's basketball team (6-4) got back on the winning track as they took down Park-Gilbert (5-4) for the second time this season 75-62 on Tuesday evening at The PHHacility in Phoenix, AZ.

Thoughts from Coach:

After the game, Head Coach Rusty Rogers said, "Disappointed in our performance tonight- we did a terrible job taking care of the ball and we had several mental mistakes on defense. We were very fortunate to get the victory but we'll get back in the gym and work to clean up a few things for Thursday's GSAC game."

 

Game Details:

The Firestorm started the game on an 8-2 run, but the Buccaneers came storming back to take the lead at 20-14. The Firestorm then regrouped and closed the quarter on an 8-2 run to tie the game 22-22 at the end of the first. The game continued to be tight in the second quarter as the teams traded baskets with the Buccaneers once again taking the advantage but the Firestorm closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 37-36 lead. The third quarter belonged to the Firestorm as they outscored the Buccaneers 21-11 led by 13 points from Alyssa Alvarez as the Firestorm extended their lead to 58-47. The Firestorm were in control from there as they didn't let the Buccaneers get within less than 8 points as they went on to win 75-62 led by 30 points from Alvarez and a double double from Angela Shorter-Kinney.

Angela Shorter-Kinney: 12 points, 12 rebounds

Baylee Slaughter: 6 points, 10 rebounds

Kaycee Brown: 16 rebounds

Kirsten Shinske: 11 points

The Firestorm continue GSAC play as they head across the valley to Surprise, AZ on Thursday, December 9 to take on rival OUAZ on at 5:00 pm.
