Firestorm Shutout Aggies

Glendale, Ariz.- For the first time in five years and a day, Arizona Christian delivered a shutout as the Firestorm beat Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday.

In a game where 23 yards was the longest play from scrimmage for either team, Nestor Higuera excited the crowd after hammering an ACU school record 52 yard field goal.

Tyler Duncan was part of three touchdowns- two throwing and one running.

Two guys named Mo- Maurice Powell and Moses Smith- were a big part of the defensive effort that held OPSU to minus six yards rushing and 88 total yards of offense.

Inside The Numbers

  • ACU took their opening drive into the endzone (Duncan five yard rush)- aided by seven OPSU penalties
  • The teams combined for 28 penalties and 309 yards
  • Duncan found Alcala wide open in the endzone from 14 yards out
  • Higuera was just getting warmed up with a 44 yard field goal to cap the first half scoring
  • Smith and Powell teamed up to sack the OPSU QB on the final play of the half

"It was a complete team effort by the Firestorm.  All three phases of the game completely dominated.  I was excited for the offense to be efficient; the defense was dominant; and special teams did a great job in all phases.  Now we put ourselves in a four-way tie for the conference championship with Langston coming to town next week."

 

Up Next

On Saturday night, the Firestorm will return to the ACU Football Field for a 7:00 pm game versus Langston.  The Firestorm seniors will be honored before their final home game.
