- But the Spirit scored the next five points and remained ahead in the set
- Behind as many as five at 8-3 in the second set, ACU used back-to-back kills from Gibson to force a 9-9 tie
- Despite forcing several ties, ACU could not grab the lead until 21-20 (Henige kill)
- Two more ties were followed by another Henige kill and Chan service ace gave the Firestorm the lead for good in the set
- A block by Emma Hogan and Kaeleigh Gibson allowed ACU to grab a 6-5 edge in the third set

"Tonight, was an uphill battle for us and we could not quite come up with the necessary pressure to go out on top. Under the circumstances, with quite a few injured and sick athletes I think our team still managed to compete well for good parts of the match. At the end of the day, we are grateful for the opportunity to compete and for the chance to honor our seniors who have sown so much into our program."
