Pilot shines in Firestorm’s fall opener

Surprise, Ariz. - ACU Men's Golf adhered to a model of consistency on the scoreboard (301, 306, 302) in a 4th-place effort at the OUAZ Fall Invitational. Freshman Gaige Pilot climbed four spots to ninth place following a 2 under par 70 in the final round. Junior Ryan Heinz closed with a 76 (+4) to finish tied for 15th while freshman Thomas Herholtz shot his tournament-low 74 (+2) to grab a share of 17th.

SCORECARD HIGHLIGHTS

Gaige Pilot rattled off five birdies in his 2 under performance. It comes as his second-lowest score to par in a competition. He made four birdies in the second round, including back-to-back on holes 9 and 10.

Thomas Herholtz also stamped five birdies to his name in the final round. He recorded birdie on the par-4 16th in the second and third rounds.

Ryan Heinz posted three combined birdies in rounds two and three. He had a team-high 12 pars in the final round.

Matt Campbell registered the only eagle on the par-5 11th hole during the final round.

The Firestorm will return to tournament play at the Embry-Riddle Fall Invite on October 8-9. It will be held at Antelope Hills Golf Course (North) in Prescott, Arizona.
