Moreno, Ramirez Make Memories On Senior Night

Michael Moreno earned signature win on Senior Night
Glendale, Ariz. - ACU Wrestling could not muster enough early points in matches, as they fell 38-7 to #20 Montana State University-Northern on Senior Night. 

Six senior wrestlers were honored before the duals got underway (Zion Longsine, Davion Barnes, Carlo Castagnaro, Korben Shuler, Michael Moreno, Trevor Downey), and three of them had the opportunity to compete. In the duals' penultimate match, Moreno rose to the occasion and defeated Carl Hansen, the #21-ranked wrestler in the 197-pound weight class, via a 10-8 decision. 

Jason Ramirez continued his solid freshman campaign, as the only other victorious Firestorm wrestler of the night. He was dominant in a 15-1 major decision over the Lights' Leo Anderson. 

The Firestorm take a 1-8 Cascade record into one final head-to-head duals against #6 Providence prior to the CCC Championships (Hosted by Eastern Oregon University) on February 16-17.

  • 133 lbs. - Jason Ramirez (ACU) won by 15-1 m. decision over Leo Anderson (MSUN 6-4)
  • 141 lbs. - Colin Silverthorn won by 10-0 m. decision over Channing Porter (ACU) (MSUN 10-4)
  • 149 lbs. - Georgino Moraga (MSUN) won by fall (4:57) over Aiden Brian (ACU) (MSUN 16-4)
  • 157 lbs. - Justin Windauer (MSUN) won by fall (2:54) over Syage Ryan (ACU) (MSUN 22-4)
  • 165 lbs. - Devin Crawford (MSUN) won by sv 4-1 over Carlo Castagnaro (ACU) (MSUN 25-4)
  • 174 lbs. - NaKoda Siegel (MSUN) won by 18-1 tech. fall over Bronson Swan (ACU) (MSUN 30-4)
  • 184 lbs. - Rylin Burns (MSUN) won by 16-0 tech. fall over Kaden Martin (ACU) (MSUN 35-4)
  • 197 lbs. - Michael Moreno (ACU) won by 10-8 decision over Carl Hansen (MSUN) (MSUN 35-7)
  • 285 lbs. - Shane Mattson (MSUN) won by 5-0 decision over Zion Longsine (ACU) (MSUN 38-7)

"Tonight, we honored our six senior wrestlers who have been staples of the ACU Wrestling program for several years," Coach Butterfield said. "Their dedication to our program has been unwavering… While we wrestled very tough, we simply weren't ready to come out and score first…  Jason Ramirez wrestled great, majoring his opponent 15-1, and Michael Moreno had the highlight of the night by defeating #21-ranked Carl Hansen. Michael avenged a close loss to Hansen from last season and came out on top 10-8 this time."
