Firestorm Battle-Tested In Laughlin

Laughlin, Nev. - Arizona Christian Men's Golf earned 14th place in The Battle At Laughlin among one of the toughest tournament fields assembled (nine NAIA Top-25 teams) this season. Keiser, the number two-ranked team in the nation, took home the prize by a 10-shot margin over #4 OUAZ with a 10-under 278 in the final round on Tuesday. Michael Robson of Oklahoma City University was the individual medalist, firing a six-under 66 in the final round to overtake Texas Wesleyan's Juan Ricardo Davila Bone (-8) by a single stroke. 

While ACU's best round was their last (299), they fell one spot with surrounding teams all taking advantage of ideal scoring conditions.

Gaige Pilot and Max Mylett led the way for the Firestorm for the second straight week, finishing in a tie for 23rd and 27th respectively. Both players produced the team's lowest 18-hole score of 72 (Pilot, third round and Mylett, first round). 

Matt Campbell carded his tournament-best 75 in the final round to ascend nine spots up the leaderboard into a share for 69th.

Nicholas Goldsberry, in his second tournament of the 2023-24 season, matched Campbell and led the Firestorm with six birdies. Ryan Heinz rounded out the top five players with a T80 finish and Sam Cox came in 94th as an individual.

  • Arizona Christian ranked fourth in par-5 scoring for the week (+6, 5.11 average)
