No. 25 Lions Sweep Firestorm

Costa Mesa, Calif.- On a Saturday when game one was a pitcher's duel and game two saw the losing team out hit the winning team, Arizona Christian came up short in both games as they were swept by NAIA number 25 ranked Vanguard.

Inside Game One
  • Both teams had chances through the first four and a half innings
  • The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth on a Vanguard home run
  • Miles and Hipolito singled in the sixth but were left stranded
  • After an error to put a runner on, Smith struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth
  • ACU was retired in order in the seventh

  • A scoreless first two innings saw a combined three hits
  • In the third, four straight singles resulted in two runs both off the bat of Buckley
  • The bottom of the frame saw Vanguard produce three runs 
  • VU scored a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth
  • Miles and Baker singled to start the seventh and Miles scored on an error but ACU would not get closer
  • Paired with an OUAZ sweep of HIU, the Firestorm and Spirit end up tied for the final GSAC playoff spot
  • Unfortunately, the tiebreaker goes in favor of OUAZ

Next week, the Firestorm will face two future GSAC foes to close out their season.  On the road at Embry-Riddle on Tuesday and home against Benedictine-Mesa on Saturday.
