Game Recap: Football | | Marcellus Justin

Tough Home Opener For The Firestorm Versus Carroll College

Glendale, AZ. - What a tough loss in the season opener. The Firestorm had a rough first half, giving up 28 points in the first half. Arizona Christian's defense pitched a shutout in the second half of the game, but it wasn't enough to get the win. Junior linebacker Ryan Odom, Senior Safety Jordan Francis and Freshman Nickelback Charlie Neos all had impact plays that helped the defense pitched a shutout.

Qb Johnny Herrera and the offense tried to make something happen on each of their drives and multiple times they got into a strong rhythm and were in the red zone a few times, but couldn't punch it in.
Running back AJ Sibley and Freshman running back Kale Konen helped keep the ball moving, but it just wasn't enough to get points on the board.

The turning point of the game was that in the first quarter, the ball on ACU's 48 Abiel Lepe fumbled the snap for the punt. That's when Carroll College got the momentum and scored 21 points in the second quarter.

Thoughts From Coach Bowen
"It was a disappointing loss. There were stages of the game that could have given us a chance to be in the game.  We have to take advantage of opportunities when they're presented. We will work harder this next week to fix those things to get ready for Eastern Oregon University."
