Softball Swept By ERAU

Glendale, Ariz.- After a tough first game on Saturday, ACU Softball had chances to win game two but came up short as the Firestorm were swept by the Eagles.

Inside Game One
  • An RBI double in the first inning started the scoring for ERAU as they built a 3-0 cushion
  • Like game one on Friday, Garcia singled with one out in the first
  • The Eagles scored the last five runs including the eighth and final in the sixth to create the mercy rule situation
  • Herrera singled in the sixth and pinch runner Mehkia Wagner stole second but was left stranded

  • The first five combined half innings were scoreless
  • In the bottom of the third, Fogleman walked, Martin singled, and Garcia singled to load the bases  
  • A passed ball allowed Fogleman to score
  • Following a walk to Herrera, Bradford was hit by a pitch, to plate Martin and give ACU a 2-0 cushion
  • A double and sacrifice fly for ERAU tie the game at 2-2
  • With the bases loaded with Firestorm and one out in the sixth, an attempted squeeze bunt turned into a double play
  • Herrera recorded a strikeout with the bases full of Eagles to end the seventh
  • Using a tie break runner in the eighth, ERAU scored two runs for a 4-2 score
  • The final opportunity for ACU in the eighth ended with a double play
  • Herrera threw a career high eight innings in game two and 202 total pitches on the day

"Difficult day at the plate.  We were unable to make any adjustments to give ourselves the opportunities we needed to beat a very good pitching staff.  We are proud of Dayna's tenacity and endurance throwing 11 tough innings today."

With Tuesday's doubleheader against Grace canceled, the Firestorm will next be in action on the ACU Softball Field on Thursday when they host Nelson (AZ) at 4:30 pm.
