Firestorm Blasts The Master’s In Offensive Onslaught, Advance to Championship

Mesa, Ariz.- ACU continued its red-hot season with a dominant 17–6 victory over The Master's University in a game that saw early offensive fireworks and a late-inning scare quelled by a deep bullpen.

The Firestorm jumped on The Master's early, scoring in each of the first six innings to build a commanding 15–0 lead. ACU was led by Trey Tarver, who delivered a 2-run homer in the fourth and finished with 4 RBIs on the day. Kane Kiaunis also had a big day, driving in 4 runs, including a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning. Starter Frank Wierman was efficient and dominant through 6.1 innings, allowing just 2 runs on 2 hits while striking out five. He was supported by a relentless offense that tallied 15 hits, including doubles from Jaylen Edmonds, Andrew Ivy, Kiaunis, and Nathan Greene.

ACU poured it on with multi-run innings in the 2nd (4), 4th (2), 5th (3), and 6th (6), forcing The Master's to cycle through seven pitchers. Greene's bases-clearing double in the fifth helped break the game wide open. The Master's rallied in the bottom of the 7th with a flurry of home runs to cut the lead to 15–6. An error added another unearned run, but ACU's bullpen stabilized to shut things down over the final two frames. Matthew Beckworth added an RBI single in the 9th to cap off the Firestorm's scoring.

With the win, ACU improves to 39-12-1 and continues their postseason run in the GSAC Championship tournament as they advance to the championship game.

  • In the top of the first inning, the Firestorm were on the board first when Kiaunis grounded out to the shortstop, earning an RBI after Ivy scored. ACU led 1-0. 
  • In the second inning, ACU scored another 4 runs. ACU extended their lead 5-0. 
  • In the fourth inning, Trey Tarver hit a huge 2-run home run. ACU extended their lead 7-0.
  • With bases loaded in the fifth inning, Nathan Greene hit a double to left center and cleared the bases, earning three RBIs. ACU extended their lead 10-0. 
  • In the sixth inning, the Firestorm scored another six runs. ACU extended their lead 16-0. 
  • The Master's put up a fight and scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. ACU led 16-7. 
  • However, Matthew Beckworth solidified the win by hitting a single through the left side and earning an RBI after Garcia scored. 
  • ACU won the game, 17-6.

"I just really liked the way we competed [against the Master's]. Last time we played them, we did not play our best and today, the team was much more focused and ready to compete. We are very focused for tomorrow's game."
