Glendale, Ariz. – Arizona Christian showed grit and resilience on Monday morning, battling nationally regarded Carroll College before ultimately falling 2–0.
The Firestorm leaned heavily on goalkeeper Brenna Sonsini, who turned in a stellar performance with 11 saves to keep ACU within striking distance throughout the match. Sonsini's quick reflexes denied multiple Carroll chances in the first half, keeping the game scoreless until the 42nd minute when the Saints finally broke through and scored their first goal.
ACU created its own offensive pressure with looks from Ella Barron, Krista Hardesty, Kiran Ahluwalia, and Jameson Maher who each forced Carroll's defense to stay organized. Barron registered one of the Firestorm's shots on goal, while Hardesty, Ahluwalia, and Maher nearly connected on opportunities that just missed the frame.
Trailing only 1–0 at halftime, the Firestorm stayed composed and continued to defend with energy. Sonsini made another series of big saves early in the second half before Carroll doubled its lead in the 70th minute. Even after falling behind by two, ACU refused to fold — pushing forward and drawing a late corner kick while continuing to fight for chances until the final whistle.
