Glendale, AZ – Women's basketball opened their 2026-27 campaign at home with a win over the Warriors of Westcliff University, 57-50. Sophomore transfer
Keana Gosney led the team in scoring with 13 points, while on the defensive end, senior post player
Kate Carpenter pulled down 16 rebounds and blocked 2 shots.
Also turning in a strong performance was sophomore
Hannah Strauss who nearly had a double-double with 10 points and 8 rebounds but also got into the passing lanes and recorded 6 steals on the night.
The teams full court pressure produced 19 steals on the night and proved to be the difference on a night the team struggled from the field. The team shot just 34 percent from the field and missed all twenty-one attempts from the three-point line. Their depth and defensive pressure though wore down the Warriors who started hot from the field hitting five first half three pointers but went 0-9 in the second half and their 27 turnovers turned into 24 points for the Firestorm.
Thoughts from Head Coach Rusty Rogers
"First and foremost, we are extremely proud of how hard the ladies played – outstanding effort. We obviously must get better offensively. Going 0-21 from three and 7-14 from the free throw line can't happen again.
Kate Carpenter, Kikki Gosney and
Hannah Strauss were outstanding!"
