Firestorm Extend Win Streak to Four Games

Glendale, Ariz.- Arizona Christian men's tennis team turned in a commanding day on the courts Thursday, sweeping Bethel, 7-0, before earning a 4-1 victory over Western New Mexico to cap a perfect outing at home.

Match One against Bethel
  • The Firestorm set the tone early against Bethel, bouncing back from a narrow loss at No. 1 doubles to claim the point with strong performances at the other two positions. Hugo Abril and Samuel Miyata secured a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Adrian Smith and Fenosoa Rasendra followed with a 6-4 victory at No. 3 to clinch the advantage.
  • From there, ACU controlled singles play.
  • Abril delivered a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, and Petar Wemmenhove matched that intensity with a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 3. Miyata (6-3, 6-2) and Rasendra (6-2, 7-5) kept the momentum rolling at Nos. 4 and 5.
  • Lennert Lemahieu battled through a three-set contest at No. 2, regrouping after dropping the second set to secure a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 victory. The most dramatic finish came at No. 6, where Smith outlasted his opponent in a tightly contested super tiebreak, 6-4, 1-6, 14-12, sealing the sweep.
Match Two against Western New Mexico
  • ACU carried its energy into the second match of the day against Western New Mexico, once again asserting control in doubles. Abril and Miyata cruised 6-1 at No. 1, while Rasendra and Lemahieu earned a 6-3 win at No. 2. Smith and Tobias Frantz added a 6-4 result at No. 3 to complete the sweep of doubles play.
  • In singles, Abril remained flawless at the top spot, dispatching his opponent 6-0, 6-3. Miyata secured another straight-set win at No. 3, 7-6, 6-4, showing composure in a tight opening-set tiebreak. Rasendra was steady at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory to help clinch the team result.
  • Western New Mexico picked up a point at No. 5 singles, and the remaining matches were tightly contested, but the Firestorm had already done enough to secure the 4-1 win.
