Firestorm Sweep Golden Eagles in Day Two to Win Series

Glendale, Ariz. –  ACU put together a complete day on both sides of the ball Friday, sweeping La Sierra in a doubleheader with a pair of 9-5 and 9-2 victories. The Firestorm showcased timely hitting and solid pitching across both games, pulling away late in each contest to secure the sweep over the Golden Eagles. ACU finished the day with 20 runs on 23 hits, using a balanced offensive approach and strong pitching performances from Kilbreath and Farrell to complete the doubleheader sweep.

Inside Game One
  • In game one, ACU rode another strong start from Casey Farrell
  • After a quiet start, the Firestorm broke through in the third inning as Kolten Lindstrom doubled in a run and Luke Zuromski followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. 
  • ACU added single runs in the fourth and then extended the lead with a two-run fifth.
  • The Firestorm offense delivered the knockout blow in the sixth inning. 
  • Lindstrom drove in another run, and Zuromski followed with a two-run single to stretch the lead to 8-0.
  • Arizona Christian added one more in the eighth before La Sierra scored twice in the ninth to make the final 9-2.
  • Farrell was dominant on the mound, tossing six shutout innings while allowing six hits and striking out six to improve to 5-3 on the season.
  • Offensively, Lindstrom and Zuromski powered the lineup in game two, combining for seven RBIs, while Zach Blair scored three times at the top of the order.
  • ACU won the game, 9-2.

Inside Game Two
  • In game two, ACU jumped ahead early and never trailed. 
  • The Firestorm opened the scoring in the second inning on RBI singles from Ty Gillespie and Austin Kirkpatrick before adding another run in the third.
  • ACU broke the game open in the fourth inning, plating four runs behind a Ty Gillespie RBI triple and a two-run home run from Austin Kirkpatrick to extend the lead to 7-1. Zach Blair added insurance in the sixth with a two-run homer to push the advantage to 9-2.
  • La Sierra rallied late with three runs in the seventh, but the Firestorm bullpen held on to secure the 9-5 win.
  • Tyson Kilbreath earned the victory, improving to 6-0 after tossing 6.1 innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out five. 
  • Gillespie and Kirkpatrick led the offensive effort with multi-RBI performances.
  • ACU won the game, 9-5.

On Thursday, March 26, the Firestorm will travel across town to Surprise, AZ and face off against their crosstown rival, OUAZ, for a conference matchup at 5pm.
