Inside the Box Scores

Match One vs Texas Wesleyan
  • Against a strong Texas Wesleyan squad that entered the match 15-1, ACU struggled to find early momentum, dropping the doubles point after losses on all three courts.
  • In singles play, the Firestorm continued to battle but were unable to secure a point.
  • Despite the final score, several matches were tightly contested.
  • At No. 3 singles, Gracie Madeya bounced back after dropping the first set to force a split, while Eloise Bigot pushed her match at No. 5 singles to three sets after winning a second-set tiebreak.
  • Savannah Salvin also extended her match at No. 6 singles to three sets, showing resilience against a deep Texas Wesleyan lineup.
  • ACU lost the match, 0-7.

Match Two vs Texas A&M Texarkana
  • The road trip continued on March 20 against Texas A&M Texarkana, where ACU showed improvement in doubles play.
  • The duo of Salvin and Madeya earned a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, but the Eagles claimed the point with wins on the other two courts, including a tightly contested match at No. 3 doubles that went to a second-set tiebreak.
  • In singles, the Firestorm again competed hard across the lineup.
  • Eloise Bigot and Savannah Salvin each pushed their matches deep, with Salvin winning the first set at No. 6 singles before her opponent rallied to take the match in three sets.
  • Bigot also forced extended play at No. 5 singles, highlighting ACU's fight despite the sweep.
  • ACU lost the match, 0-7.

Thoughts from Coach Phil Carlisle

"Tough matches this week, but the final scores don't tell the full story. We lost four super tiebreaks between the two matches and had match points at #3 doubles against Texarkana that would have given us the doubles point. So that's five points we left on the table that would have been a better indicator for how competitive the matches actually were, but that's how it works sometimes. Right now the lack of experience is our biggest problem, especially in tight moments, but we only gain the experience by going through the fire which is exactly what we're doing. I'm proud of the girls for staying positive and continuing to work hard as we go through these growing pains."

Next Up
On Wednesday, the Lady Firestorm will head back home to their home courts and face off against The College of Idaho at 1pm.
