A Sweep For ACU Softball To Open GSAC Play

Glendale, Ariz.- GSAC play arrived in Glendale on Thursday as Arizona Christian locked up the sweep of La Sierra in their final at bats of both games.  The Firestorm posted 14 runs on a very windy day to open 2-0 in GSAC action.

  • The first four innings saw zero runs
  • Herrera retired the first 13 batters she faced
  • The Firestorm had traffic on base in every inning but could not score in their first 12 outs
  • In the fifth, Garcia bounced a ground rule double over the left field fence and McCracken followed with an RBI single
  • Avery Slater and Bradford reached on back-to-back errors to start the bottom of the sixth
  • The flood gates opened and ACU scored seven runs on just four hits thanks to five LSU errors in the inning

  • The Golden Eagles added two more in the second for a 3-0 edge
  • La Sierra had runners on base in four of the final five innings but did not score again
  • Martin walked to start the third, stole second, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a Herrera RBI single
  • Ashley Madonia and Martin singled, moved up on a sac bunt from Garcia, and both came home via a Herrera single to tie the game at 3-3
  • ACU left the bases loaded in the fifth
  • Martin scored the game winning run and Garcia scored to add an insurance run
  • Slater doubled home Grubb to account for the final tally
  • Pearson threw 3.1 innings of scoreless relief for the win
  • Herrera struck out two of the three batters she faced in the seventh to earn her second save of the season

The same two teams will square off again on Friday.  The double header will start at 11:00 am to confirm both games are complete before sundown (LSU is a Seventh Day Adventist school).
