A Last Ups Scoring Split

Irvine, Calif.- In Friday's doubleheader against Westcliff, the teams split the two games after both teams scored the game winning runs in their last ups.  The teams squared off at the OC Great Park- the site of the GSAC Championships at the end of the month.

Inside Game One
  • The teams scored in groups of two including in the first inning when two scored on a throwing error
  • Both teams had chances but the score did not change until the bottom of the fifth when the Warriors plated two 
  • At the end of the scheduled seven innings, the game was still knotted at two
  • In the eighth, Villanueva scored the tie break runner, then stole second and was driven home by Lauko
  • Westcliff answered with two in the bottom frame
  • Slater was doubled home by McCracken and pinch runner Elena Garcia scored the game's final run on a squeeze bunt from Villanueva
  • Herrera retired the Warriors 1-2-3 in the last of the ninth

  • All runs scored for both teams were scored single runs in an  inning
  • The Warriors plated single runs in the second and third
  • In the fourth, McCracken doubled (Brooke Lemley pinch ran) and Landeros scored the run with a bases loaded sac fly
  • Westcliff went back up two with a 3-1 lead
  • Herrera opened the sixth by wearing a pitch and came in to score on a pinch hit single by Pisa
  • Lauko tripled in the seventh, Madonia plated her with a sac fly, and the game was tied 3-3
  • But an error, sac, and single scored the winning run in the bottom of the inning

Up Next
Saturday's games with Westcliff were canceled earlier in the week due to the threat of rain on Saturday.  So the Firestorm will next be in action next Friday when they travel to play OUAZ at Willow Canyon High School in Surprise.
