Double 5-1 Wins Wrap Up Regular Season

Glendale, Ariz.- After honoring their three seniors (Nadia Landeros, Brooklyn Martinez, Christina Grubb) on Saturday morning, Arizona Christian closed out the regular season with a pair 5-1 wins over Nelson (AZ).

Inside Game One
  • Following a 1-2-3 top of the first, the Firestorm batted around in the bottom of the inning to put up three runs 
  • Landeros doubled home Martinez, Herrera singled home Landeros, and Pisa singled in Herrera
  • McCracken scored on a grounder by Pisa for a 4-0 edge in the third 
  • Grubb tripled into the right field corner and Herrera sent a sac fly to right to let Grubb cross the plate
  • The Warriors plated an unearned run in the fifth
  • Herrera ended the game with a pair of strikeouts for win number 14 on the year

ACU Game Two Stats
Inside Game Two
  • Morgan Bradford scored on a throwing error in the second and ACU was up 1-0
  • The Warriors strung together three straight singles to tie the score at 1-1 in the third
  • In the fourth, Herrera walked, went to second on a wild pitch, and came home on pinch hit single from McCracken
  • ACU gave Grinstead some run cushion with a three run fifth
  • With two outs, Grubb wore a pitch, Landeros doubled, Herrera earned two RBI, and Miller scored Herrera
  • Grinstead retired nine of the last ten batters she faced including a punch out to end it

"It was a great day to honor our seniors Brooklynn, Christy, and Nadia. They got us started off executing collectively with Brooklynn leading off with a walk, Christy sacrificing her over, and Nadia driving her in with a double in the gap. A consistent effort on offense and defense the entire day led to two 5-1 victories for our senior class."

Up Next
On Tuesday, the Firestorm will begin play in the GSAC Championship when they face off with Embry-Riddle for the fifth time in the last seven games.  First pitch from the OC Great Park in Irvine will come at 3:00 pm.
