Firestorm Loses Two In GSAC Championship Tournament

Irvine, Calif.- Arizona Christian got knocked out in a grueling GSAC Championship tournament doubleheader, bouncing back in the nightcap with a dramatic 7-8 setback after opening the day with a 12-4 loss to Hope International.

Inside Game One
  • In game one, the Firestorm showed early fight as Zack Blair launched a solo homer down the right-field line in the first inning to tie the score at 1-1. 
  • ACU later trimmed the deficit in the fourth when Joey Genduso and Marcellus Cueva delivered RBI singles, making it 7-3. 
  • Noah Manasan added an RBI single in the sixth, but Hope International's offense proved too much in a 12-4 final. 
  • Blair paced the offense by going 2-for-4 with a home run, while Cueva added two hits and an RBI. 
  • ACU lost the game, 12-4. 

Inside Game Two
  • ACU responded with resilience in game two against Benedictine Mesa, piling up 14 hits and building an early lead. 
  • The Firestorm struck first in the opening inning as Genduso drew a bases-loaded walk and Ty Gillespie followed with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 advantage.
  • After ACU extended the lead to 5-2 in the fourth behind an RBI play from Blair and a two-run single by Manasan, Benedictine Mesa clawed back to take a 6-5 lead through six innings.
  • The Firestorm answered in the seventh when Reese Vassar doubled down the left-field line to score Andrew Ivy and knot the score at 6-6. 
  • Benedictine Mesa pushed across two unearned runs in the eighth, forcing ACU into one final rally.
  • In the ninth, Vassar came through again with an RBI single to bring home Ivy and cut the deficit to one, but the tying run was stranded as Benedictine Mesa held on for the 8-7 win.
  • ACU lost the game, 7-8.
