ACU Flag Football Goes 2-1 at GSAC Jamboree, Earns No. 3 Seed

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Arizona Christian Firestorm Flag Football posted a 2-1 record at the GSAC Jamboree, played at Spirit Field, wrapping up the regular season with momentum heading into postseason play.

Game 1 – vs. Hope International University (L, 32-7)
ACU opened the jamboree against Hope International. Game 2 – vs. Simpson University (W, 20-6)
The Firestorm rebounded with a strong defensive effort and efficient offense in a win over the Red Hawks.
  • Maccagnano passed for 201 yards and three touchdowns.
  • Mikayla Navarro had a breakout game with nine receptions for 93 yards and three TDs.
  • Seylah Childress contributed 47 rushing yards.
  • D'Alessio recorded 10 tackles.
  • Shana Hunton added eight flag pulls.
Game 3 – vs. La Sierra University (W, 26-14)
In the regular season finale, ACU fell behind 14-0 before scoring 26 unanswered points for the "W".
  • Maccagnano threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Yniguez totaled six receptions for 64 yards and a TD.
  • Navarro added 58 receiving yards and a touchdown.
  • Childress scored two rushing touchdowns.
  • D'Alessio posted another 10-tackle performance.
  • Hunton contributed six tackles and an interception.
  • Bella Huguez recorded four tackles and two sacks.
  • Carly Reeves added an interception.

"I'm really proud of the way our team responded, coming together and bouncing back to finish the regular season on a strong note with a great win.  Now our focus shifts quickly to the GSAC Tournament, where we're excited for the opportunity to compete and carry that momentum forward."

Next Up
Arizona Christian and La Sierra finished tied for second in the GSAC standings.  After splitting their regular season meetings, La Sierra earns the No. 2 seed while Arizona Christian claims the No. 3 seed based on point differential for next week's GSAC Tournament.

The Firestorm will face off with the Golden Eagles in a rematch next Thursday at the Arizona Cardinals Flag Football Campus, located outside State Farm Stadium, in the GSAC Tournament.  First snap is set for 3:00 pm.
