ACU Battles Back But Falls In Final Minute Vs La Sierra

Glendale, Ariz. – Arizona Christian battled back twice, but a late goal from La Sierra proved victorious in the final minute of the game as the Golden Eagles secured a 3-2 win on the road.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • La Sierra opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Elias Quintanar Macias converted a penalty kick to give the Golden Eagles an early 1-0 advantage. 
  • ACU responded just before halftime, with Caleb Anderson finding the back of the net in the 45th minute. Logan Johnson provided the assist, marking Anderson's third goal of the season and sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1. 
  • The Golden Eagles regained the lead in the 54th minute when Quintanar Macias converted another penalty kick. 
  • Once again, the Firestorm answered. In the 69th minute, Nikarro Williams scored his first goal of the season, with Johnson recording his second assist of the night to level the match at 2-2.
  • With the contest appearing headed toward a draw, La Sierra found the deciding goal in the 90th minute. 
  • Damian Jimenez scored off an assist from Adrian Navarro at 89:14, giving the Golden Eagles the late advantage.
  • ACU lost the game, 2-3. 

THOUGHTS FROM COACH TED KRZYWIECKI
"Tonight unfortunately we got away from fundamentals that have always been key to our program. We did not start or sustain the level of intensity and focus we need to compete in GSAC competition. We will take the lesson and be ready to turn the page on Saturday.

On Thursday, the Firestorm will have their third conference game and host La Sierra at 8pm on the ACU Soccer Field.
