Firestorm Show Fight In Close Match Against Eagles

Glendale, Ariz. – Arizona Christian battled Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) in a tightly contested match Saturday night at the ACU Soccer Field, with the Firestorm ultimately falling 1-0.

  • ACU came out ready for the challenge, matching the Eagles throughout a competitive opening half. 
  • The Firestorm generated nine shots in the first 45 minutes and kept pressure on the Embry-Riddle defense, but the Eagles managed to break through in the 25th minute when Kevin Yamna found the back of the net off an assist from Sean Maguire.
  • Despite trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Firestorm continued to push forward in the second half. 
  • ACU recorded eight additional shots after the break and finished the night with 17 shots overall, matching Embry-Riddle's total.
  • The Firestorm also created several opportunities on target, finishing with seven shots on goal. Raul Aranda provided an offensive spark off the bench with two shots on goal, while Logan Johnson added three shots and one on target. Caleb Anderson also contributed four shots, including one on goal.
  • The Firestorm battled until the final whistle, continuing to create opportunities while keeping the match within a single goal throughout the second half. 
  • ACU lost the game, 0-1.

"I was proud of our guys tonight for the commitment to our plan. I thought our defensive execution was much improved tonight from Thursday. We are continuing to create high quality chances and I know they will start to convert. We have to dig in as a group and find a spark to get going. We have a challenge ahead of us next week and we need to be prepared to work for every point. I know our best soccer is ahead of us."
