Glendale, Ariz. — After rallying to win the opening set, Arizona Christian Women's Volleyball could not carry its momentum into the final three sets Saturday, falling to OUAZ in four sets.
Inside the Numbers
- The Firestorm (9-5, 4-3 GSAC) dropped the first three points of the opening set before answering with seven straight
- Madison Van Wie recorded two kills during the run as ACU took control
- The Firestorm never surrendered the lead for the remainder of the set
- Kiah Lerma surpassed 500 career digs early in the match
- Set two featured a back-and-forth battle with multiple ties and lead changes before the teams reached a 9-9 deadlock.
- The Spirit (10-4, 6-0 GSAC) scored the next two points and remained in front of the rest of the set
- ACU never held the lead in the third set
- The Firestorm battled within one point several times, but OUAZ maintained the advantage
- Zuri Reeser opened the fourth set with a kill
- The teams battled through ties at 1-1, 5-5, and 7-7 before OUAZ broke the final tie and stayed in front to close out the match
Madison Sherby led the Firestorm with 10 kills. Reeser added nine kills and 12 digs, while Van Wie also recorded nine kills. Lerma and
Kensie Seward each finished with 16 digs, and
Becca Thomson dished out 21 assists.
Thoughts From Coach Shelton
"Yes, it was a good game. Every game is a step forward for them and us. They keep getting better, but they are young and they are going to make young mistakes. However, I could not be more proud of them going out and just playing good volleyball at times. We'll get better. We're gonna continue to fight, and it is a long season. Thank you to all the fans that came out to support."
