Dave Johnson enters his second year at ACU as the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach. Dave has over 30 seasons of coaching football at various levels including Minor, High School, Canadian College, NCAA, and professionally in Europe.
Dave's professional goal is to "be half the man his father is". He has been named coach of the year 8 times in his career, and has held the positions of Head Coach, Offensive, Defensive, Recruiting and Special Teams coordinator at the college level. Before arriving at ACU, Johnson served at the head football coach at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver for 7 seasons, and 2 previous seasons as the Defensive and Recruiting Coordinator at the University of Calgary.
After studying Criminology at Simon Fraser University, Dave was drafted by the BC Lions (CFL) as a Linebacker. He started his coaching career at high school level (Abby Sr.), he moved onto the role of Head coach with the Abbotsford Airforce (CJFL), and in his first year coaching, at the college level, as the Defensive Coordinator at the University of British Columbia, they won the National Championship.
Dave and his wife, Suzanne, attend Christ Church of the Valley - Scottsdale. Together, they have 3 teen aged children. Alexis (18), is a senior at Pinnacle high school, J.D. (14) and Addyson (13) are in 8 & 7th grades at Explorer middle school.
