Roger Bonilla

Roger Bonilla was named as an assistant coach of the ACU men’s soccer program in January, 2021. 

 

Prior to ACU, he coached in Laredo, Tex. with the Laredo Heat Youth Soccer Club.  During his time with the Laredo Heat Youth, he had the honor of coaching almost all age groups in the club.  He started his coaching career as an assistant coach for U-6 and the U-10 teams.  After six months of coaching in those age groups, he was named the U-8 head coach and worked with that age group for a full season. 

 

In the summer of 2019, he was fortunate enough to work with the Laredo Heat SC NPSL under head coach Aidan Davison.  Following that season, he became more involved with the NPSL, where he recruited players for the 2020 summer season, and was also named the first assistant under head coach John Powell.  In the fall of 2020, he was named the head coach for the U-17 team boys and the assistant for the UPSL U-23 team.  During his first season, the U-17 team won the WDDOA prime division. 

 

Bonilla played collegiately at NCAA Div. III Howard Payne University from 2016 to 2018.  After two seasons at Howard Payne University, he transferred to NCAA Div. II Texas A&M International University in the spring of 2019.  He played at TAMIU in the fall of 2019 and decided to forgo his senior season, instead pursuing a career in coaching.

 

He moved to Phoenix in Jan., 2021 and started to attend Christ Church of the Valley where he also coaches youth soccer.  He has a girlfriend, Melissa, and a dog, who he enjoys spending his time with.  He loves to watch soccer in order to expand his knowledge of the game.
