Point Loma Nazarene Breaks Scoring Record Against ACU

San Diego, Calif. - Point Loma Nazarene University (2-1) broke its school single-game scoring record as seven Sea Lions scored in double figures in a 128-71 victory over Arizona Christian University, Saturday, Nov. 12, at Golden Gym on the PLNU campus in San Diego. Point Loma improved its record to 2-1 and ACU's record falls to 1-3. 

ACU hosts two games against Rocky Mountain College from Montana, Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19, both at 7 p.m. Arizona time. 

Point Loma has broken the 100-point mark in a game nine times in the history of its women's basketball program, but its 128 points was the most ever, breaking the old mark of 117 reached against Olivet Nazarene in 2007. A Kiley Berlinski layup with 5:41 left tied the record and Berlinski's lay-up at 5:08 broke the old record. 

ACU's senior guard Steffani Liscum (Tucson, Ariz./Marana H.S.) raised her season scoring average to 28.0 with a season-high 32 points against PLNU, hitting 12 of 25 shots, 5 of 12 from behind the three-point arc and all three of her free throw tries. Liscum also gathered 5 rebounds, passed 3 assists and stole the ball 4 times. Senior guard Anne Munsil (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian Academy) added 9 points with 3 three-pointers and 2 rebounds. 

Freshman forward Sarah Beth Hock (Gilbert, Ariz./Perry H.S.) contributed 7 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals, and freshman guard Liz Erickson (Peoria, Ariz./Northwest Christian School) added 6 points, made all four of her free throw attempts, grabbed 5 rebounds, blocked a shot and stole the ball twice. Junior guard Jessica Largo (Gallup, N.M./Rehoboth Christian School) contributed 5 points, one three-pointer, 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals, and freshman center Jamie Heath (Phoenix, Ariz./Thunderbird H.S.) added 5 points, 2 rebounds and one block. 

ACU shot .313 from the field (25-80), made 11 of 39 three-pointers (.282) and 10 of 18 free throws (.556), committed 23 turnovers and stole the ball 11 times from Point Loma. The Sea Lions dominated the rebounding, gathering 69 boards while ACU grabbed just 34. PLNU shot .554 from the field (51-92), made 10 of 21 three-pointers (.476) and 16 of its 23 free throws (.696), committed 16 turnovers, passed 30 assists, blocked 5 shots, and stole the ball 15 times from ACU. 

Leading seven players in double figures for Point Loma was senior guard Crissa Jackson with 25 points, 4 three-pointers, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals, and junior forward Nyla Bailey, who recorded a double double with 24 points on 9 of 14 shots, and grabbed 17 rebounds. Freshman forward Joelle Herron came off the bench to add 18 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocked shots, as Point Loma's reserves outscored ACU's reserves. 50-16. 

Junior guard Kiley Berlinski added 13 points, 2 three-pointers, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, and senior guard Brianna Colon tallied 10 points and passed 7 assists. Senior reserve forward Brittany Stanley contributed 10 points, 8 rebounds and sophomore guard Callie Rhoades added 10 points and 2 three-pointers off the bench. 

Point Loma reached its first double-digit lead at the 9:05 mark of the first half, 33-22, in the middle of a run of 15 consecutive points that took the Sea Lions from seven points ahead to a more comfortable 44-22 lead with 6:31 left in the first half. PLNU led 60-39 at intermission. 

The Sea Lions' lead reached 30 points with 16:53 left in the game, 40 points with 13:18 left, and 50 points, 100-50, with 9:23 remaining.
