ACU Eclipses Century Mark In Win; Liscum Scores 30 Again

Phoenix, Ariz. - Senior guard Steffani Liscum (Tucson, Ariz./Marana H.S.) exploded for 30 points for the second consecutive game, and Arizona Christian University set school records with 109 points, 15 three-point field goals and 22 steals in a 109-86 trouncing of Johnson and Wales University (0-2) from North Miami, Florida, in Saturday, Nov. 5 collegiate women's basketball action in Wildcat Gymnasium on the campus of Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Colo. 

The Firestorm, 1-1 this season, plays a pair of games against teams from the Golden State Athletics Conference next week in San Diego, California, meeting San Diego Christian College, Friday, Nov. 11, at 5:30 p.m., and Point Loma Nazarene University, Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. 

Liscum, an All-A.I.I. Division II first team and NCCAA All-West Region first team selection who averaged 22.9 points per game last season, made 10 of her 25 field goal tries, 4 of 13 from three-point range and all six of her free throw attempts, gathered 9 rebounds, passed 2 assists and stole the ball 7 times from JWU-Florida. She scored 11 points in the first half and 19 in the second half. Five Firestorm players reached double figures in points. 

Senior guard Anne Munsil (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian Academy) finished with 15 points on 5 of 9 field goals with 2 three-pointers, 8 rebounds and one steal, and junior guard Jessica Largo (Gallup, N.M./Rehoboth Christian School), an All-Conference first team selection last season, contributed 16 points, 2 three-pointers, 7 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists and made all six of her free throw attempts. Senior guard Elizabeth Inscore (Dayville, Ore./Dayville H.S.) added a career-high 11 points with 3 three-pointers, all in the first half, and freshman forward Sarah Beth Hock (Gilbert, Ariz./Perry H.S.), who scored 16 in her collegiate debut Friday night, contributed 10 points, making 4 of 5 shots and added 5 rebounds and one steal. 

Freshman guard Ashton Bourdon (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Ridge H.S.) contributed 6 points, 4 assists and 4 steals, and junior guard Jessica Smith (Mesa, Ariz./Home Schooled) gave ACU 3 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. The Firestorm made 36-84 field goals (.429), 15-41 three-pointers (.366), and 22-28 free throws (.786), out-rebounded JWU-Florida, 54-46, stole the ball 22 times and turned the ball over 24 times. 

Five JWU players reached double figures, including freshman guard Ashlee Rioux with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and senior guard Ashley Foe with 16 points, 8 of 9 free throws, and 5 rebounds. Senior guard Alicia Sheppard added 12 points and 3 assists, freshman guard Kristina Bridges tallied 11 points with 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals, and sophomore guard Travaniece Coleman contributed a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. 

JWU-Florida made 32-72 shots (.444), 2-9 three-pointers (.222) and 20-37 free throws (.541), and committed 30 turnovers and stole the ball 12 times from ACU. 

ACU led 11-4 after the first 3:29 of the game, but an 11-2 run by JWU put the Wildcats ahead, 15-13, with 13:18 left in the first half. The Firestorm scored nine consecutive points, four by Liscum, and took a 22-15 advantage with 12:11 left and led 25-18 when JWU began a run of eight points and regained a 26-25 lead with 8:52 to go before intermission. ACU took its turn with a 13-4 run that gave the Firestorm its biggest lead of the game to that point, 38-30, with 5:03 left. ACU reached its first of two 10-point leads in the first half on Munsil's three-pointer at 3:18. The Firestorm led 57-49 going into the halftime locker room. 

In the second half, ACU led by 10 again, 59-49, in the first minute, but JWU outscored ACU, 14-4, and tied the game at 63-63 with 15:09 left in regulation time. From that point, ACU steadily pulled away to a 23-point victory, regaining a 10-point lead, 73-63 with 13:16 left, and stretching the lead to 13 points, 78-65, with 12:37 left on Hock's lay-up. The Firestorm led by 18 points three times, 19 points once, and reached a 21-point lead, 101-80, with 3:40 left on Munsil's basket following Bourdon's steal. 

During ACU's game-changing 46-23 final run over the last 15 minutes, ACU stole the ball eight times, and Liscum scored 12 points with 2 three-pointers and four steals. Largo tallied 7, freshman center Jamie Heath (Phoenix, Ariz./Thunderbird H.S.) scored 5 with a three-pointer, and Munsil and Hock scored four each during the long run.
