Menlo Manages Firestorm

ATHERTON, CA – The Menlo College Oaks rallied in the second half, to storm past Arizona Christian University 35-14 in their homecoming game.

With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 1-6 overall, while Menlo College improves to 2-4 overall on the season.

Menlo would start the game Saturday quickly, as they took the opening kick-off 100 yards for an early score of 7-0.

The Firestorm would rally and tie the score at seven in the first few minutes of the second quarter on a Mike Brown one yard touchdown run. The Firestorm charged right back down field minutes later and would quickly take a 14-7 lead, after a one yard touchdown run by Tyler Ellenberger.

Following the pair of ACU scores, Menlo would respond and never look back. Wade Hawkins hooked up with Brandon Soohoo from four yards out to even the score at 14 headed into halftime.

Late in the fourth quarter Menlo scored two rushing touchdowns, both from Jake Fohn; one a three yard touchdown and the other was from 39 yards out to put the game out of reach.

Firestorm quarterback Ryan Esslinger was once again filling in for Gerrit Groenewold and fared well, going 29-for-55 for 217 yards in the air .

The Arizona Christian football team will receive a well needed bye week this coming week, before returning to the gridiron on Saturday October 25th at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Missouri. The Firestorm will close out their inaugural 2014 season at home on November 1st against Menlo College at 7:15pm at Shadow Mountain High School.
