Box Score PHOENIX, AZ – The Arizona Christian Firestorm football team fell to the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers by a final of 33-14 in front of 894 fans on a rainy Saturday evening at Shadow Mountain High School.
With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 2-4 overall, while Kentucky Wesleyan University improves to 2-2 overall on the season.
Saturday's game began under cloudy skies with lighting off in the distance, but that didn't scare the Panthers or Firestorm away. After a scoreless ten minutes to start the game, Kentucky Wesleyan got on the board first, thanks to a Cole Woodburn 27 yard field goal; giving KWU an early 3-0 lead.
With under a minute to go in the first quarter, the Panthers would get back in the scoring column when Dalton Oliver connected with Keelan Cole for a short two yard touchdown reception. The PAT was blocked, so KWU led ACU 9-0 after a quarter of play.
In the second quarter, following an hour rain/lightening delay; the Panthers would find the end zone again, this time on a Dalton Oliver to Keelan Cole hook-up of 67 yards. This time, KWU, converted on the PAT and took a 16-0 lead into halftime.
After the break, the Panthers would tack on a field goal just five minutes into the second half to take a commanding 19-0 lead, before the Firestorm began their comeback.
ACU quarterback Gerrit Groenewold hooked up with Neiman Sneed for a 13 yard touchdown with less than five minutes to play in the third quarter; getting ACU on the board down 19-7.
In the fourth quarter, Kentucky Wesleyan and ACU would alternate scores, with the Panthers getting the final touchdown with a minute and 23 seconds left in the ballgame to cap a 33-14 road victory.
The Arizona Christian Firestorm football team will now hit the road for three weeks, before returning home to close out the regular season on November 1st. Next week, the Firestorm will travel to Lake Wales, Florida to face Webber International University. Kick-off is scheduled for 1pm Arizona time.
