Tennis Opens Season Winning Two of Three In Colorado

Grand Junction, CO- Men's Tennis opened their season with rare countable fall matches against three schools in Colorado over the weekend.  Arizona Christian went 2-1 on the trip after beating Colorado Christian and Colorado State-Pueblo.

The most successful Firestorm were Juniors Gabo Galeffi and Marcelo Balderrama who went 3-0 playing as a doubles unit.  They won two of their matches 8-2 sandwiched around a 9-7 winning effort against Metro State- Denver.

Senior Ezequiel Suarez and Sophomore Alberto Lapiedra finished 2-1 on the weekend.  After 8-2 and 8-5 victories, their loss was a 9-8 contest to a duo from Metro State.

Overall, the Firestorm went 7-2 in doubles action.

On the singles courts, Balderrama and Sophomore Enzo Douillac completed their weekends with 2-1 records.  Balderrama played two matches at number two singles- going 1-1- and one match on the third court with a 1-0 record.  Douillac appeared at one, two, and three singles while producing wins on courts one and three.

Lapiedra delivered a 2-0 trip that saw him play number one singles for both matches.  In his match against Metro State, he used a third set tie break to secure the win.  He cruised 6-2 and 6-1 against CSU Pueblo.

Junior Luka Stanivukovic wound up with a 2-0 record after a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Colorado Christian and 6-4, 7-5 win over CSU-Pueblo.

As a group, they concluded 11-7 on the singles courts.

The next countable match for the Firestorm will not be until January 27 at Weber State.  But Lapiedra will be joined by Senior Seth Moore at the Oracle Cup (ITA NAIA Nationals) beginning on Thursday.
