Box Score Glendale, CA- The Arizona Christian men collected their first on court win of the season with a convincing 9-0 win over Occidental on Thursday evening. Junior Ezequiel Suarez surrendered just two games combined in singles and doubles action.
Opening their evening in doubles, ACU dominated courts two and three with wins of 8-1 on both courts. Doubles one was tighter but the Firestorm still prevailed 8-4.
Moving on to singles play, Suarez controlled his match against Annop D'Souza on court five with 6-1 and 6-0 scores.
Senior Tyler Cawthorne used scores of 6-2 and 6-1 to cruise through his singles court two match. Cawthorne's win gave ACU their fifth team point and therefore locked up the team win.
On court six, Senior Michael Munguia and Carlos Flores played a close first set with Munguia winning 6-4. The second set was a different story as Munguia won easily 6-1.
Juniors David Castano and Seth Moore played nearly mirror image matches. Castano won his first set 6-2 before holding on for a 7-5 second set win on court four. Court three saw Moore win his first set with some extra work of 7-5 but had no worries in the second set as he won 6-1.
Sophomore Santiago Galeffi put his court one effort through a duplicator as he won both sets 6-3 and 6-3.
The Firestorm will return to action on Friday, February 26, when they host Colorado Mesa at the Phoenix Tennis Center at 6:00 pm (AT).
