ACU Men's Tennis Splits on Day Two of Firestorm Classic

Phoenix, AZ- The Firestorm Men's Tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday as they hosted the Firestorm Classic at the Phoenix Tennis Center. In match one, ACU secured a dominate 8-1 victory over Colorado Mesa before dropping the night cap to St. Edwards, 5-4.

In the first match, the Firestorm took two of three doubles matches for the early lead.  Junior Enzo Douillac and Sophomore Jesse Miritello won 8-4 in the number one doubles match. The second victory came in the number three doubles match when Freshman Theo Preiswerk and Senior Luka Stanivukovic won in dominate fashion, 8-0.

In singles action, the Firestorm stayed red hot collecting wins in all the matches. Junior Alberto Lapiedra, Junior Daniel Superlano, Senior Santiago Galeffi, Senior Marcelo Balderrama, Preiswerk and Junior Andy Vang all collected victories.

In the night cap, the Firestorm battled strong, but fell in a close match with St. Edwards, 5-4. ACU picked up three wins in singles action in the number 2, 3 and 4 spots in the lineup. Lapiedra secured a victory in the number two singles spot, 6-3, 6-0. Superlano collected a win in the number three spot, while Balderrama won in the number five spot.

ACU was only able to collect one victory in doubles action in the number two spot. Lapiedra and Superlano were victorious by a score of 8-6.

The Firestorm will return to action on March 9th when they host Lewis-Clark State College in a match at the Phoenix Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm.
