Moorpark, Calif. - Arizona Christian Men's Track and Field continued to develop and refine their craft this indoor season at the Moorpark Season Opener in Moorpark, California. The Firestorm collected 12 top-10 finishes when all was set in stone and 16 personal records were rewritten, including multiple by six athletes (Alonzo Paul, Zachary Holland, Brady Ferris, Xuru Ren, Manny Valenzuela, and Brent Nelson Jr.). 

Drew Gertenrich shone the brightest, notching top-five finishes in both discus throw and javelin throw. The junior's discus throw of 45.30 meters ranks second all-time in program history.

In the 60-meter dash, Alonzo Paul ran the fourth-fastest time in program history (7.23 seconds) to get a backdoor top-10 (T-10 out of 48).

Freshman Thaddious Thurman had the highest finish of the day, winning the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.04 seconds.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH BRIAN BELL

"It was a great opportunity to get an early season look at the Master's University and Vanguard, while competing against some top programs from Southern California," Coach Bell said. "We couldn't be more pleased with how the athletes performed and conducted themselves at the Moorpark Opener. It's fun and exciting to see so many student-athletes doing so well this early in the season. The coaching staff and I are confident that come late April we will be able to compete with the best at the GSAC championship."

NEXT UP FOR THE FIRESTORM

The Firestorm ready themselves for their third meet in as many weeks, with the Gaucho Indoor Invitational hosted by Glendale Community College on February 10th. It also marks the final event of the indoor season prior to outdoor competition beginning March 1st.
