Mesa, AZ – The men's Track & Field team travelled east to Mesa Community College for the Carvel Jackson Track & Field Memorial Showcase. The meet featured a mixture of NCAA, NJCAA, and NAIA competition which allowed for high level competition, and the opportunity for many of the Firestorm to have their best performances of the season. Among the many great performances was the opening event of the day which was the 4x800 relay which set a new program record which included breaking the 8:00 barrier for the first time as well.
Middle Distance
A team of
Isaac Linan,
Adriel Valenzuela,
John-Gabriel Lofredo and
Landyn Deboard set the program record in the 4x800 with a time of 7:54.78. Later in the evening Linan returned in the open 800 and ran a time of 1:56.69. Junior
Julian Salyer ran his first 1500 of the season, and ran a new personal best with a time of 4:07.63.
Throwing Events
Junior
TaHaj Acoff once again dominated the Shot Put event with a mark of 55' 1" and sophomore
Brooks Rasmussen set another personal best in the Javelin with a toss of '180 9".
Sprints & Hurdles
Brenten Szymanski was a top ten finisher in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 54.3; while
Thaddious Thurman led the team in the 110 Hurdles with a new personal best of 15.54.
Long Distance
Senior
Trevin Janssen set a new personal best in the 5K with a time of 15:49.05. Joining him in the race and setting a new best as well was sophomore
Braxton Pingleton with a time of 16:03.
Jumps
Jase Carrasquillo was the lone Firestorm jumper of the day. He competed in the Long Jump and leaped 21' 7.75".
