Brenten Couch Appointed to Lead Track & Field Programs

Brian Bell Steps Away Following Successful Firestorm Tenure

Glendale, Ariz.- Arizona Christian University Athletics has announced a leadership transition within its Track & Field programs, as Brian Bell will step away following the national meet and Brenten Couch has been appointed as the next leader of the Firestorm programs.

Bell has served within the program since the fall of 2020 and as Director of Track & Field and Cross Country since 2023. During his tenure, the Firestorm achieved significant success, including an NAIA National Champion, an NAIA National Runner-Up, multiple NAIA All-Americans, five GSAC Conference Championships, and numerous school records. Under Bell's leadership, the men's and women's teams were also recognized as NAIA Scholar Teams from 2024-2026.

Most importantly, Bell helped establish a culture centered on family, excellence, accountability, and biblical principles.

"This decision was not made lightly," said Bell. "Coaching this program has been one of the more meaningful experiences of my professional life. I'm incredibly proud of what we've built together. At this time, I feel it's important to step away and dedicate time to family, reflection, and rest. I'm grateful for the support of our athletes, staff, and the ACU community."

Bell also expressed confidence in the future of the program under Couch's leadership.

"Brenten has done an outstanding job throughout his time at ACU and has earned this opportunity," said Bell. "He is a tremendous coach, deeply invested in the student-athlete experience, and fully aligned with the culture and mission of this program. I'm excited to see the program continue to grow under his leadership."

ACU Director of Athletics Dr. Peter Dryer commented, "Coach Bell's leadership has had a lasting impact on our program and the lives of our student-athletes. We are thankful for his commitment to our student-athletes and the continued growth of our program, and look forward to staying connected."

ACU Athletics has also announced the promotion of Couch to Director of Track & Field and Cross Country.

Couch has served as an assistant coach with the Firestorm program over the past several seasons, working with hurdles, multis, and pole vault athletes. During his time at ACU, he has played an important role in the continued development and competitive growth of the program.

Much of the Firestorm coaching staff will remain in place, providing continuity and stability for current and future student-athletes.

"We are excited to elevate Brenten into this leadership role," said Dryer. "He understands our culture, has built strong relationships within the program, and is committed to continuing the momentum of Firestorm Track & Field and Cross Country. We believe he is well-positioned to lead this program into its next chapter."

Prior to ACU, Couch served as an assistant coach at Olivet Nazarene University, where he supervised hurdles, sprints, and multis for the men's and women's track and field programs.

Couch competed in a wide range of events during his collegiate career, including hurdles, jumps, and the heptathlon. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management before completing a Master of Business in Organizational Leadership.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead this program," said Couch. "Coach Bell built a strong foundation, and I'm excited to continue investing in our student-athletes while pursuing excellence in competition, academics, and spiritual growth. We also have an incredible assistant coaching staff in place that cares deeply about our student-athletes and this program. I'm thankful for their commitment and excited for what lies ahead together."

The Firestorm will continue preparations for the upcoming seasons under Couch's leadership, building upon the strong foundation established over recent years.
