Glendale, Ariz. - Arizona Christian University is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Mickey Kerr as the new Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR). With a distinguished career in sports management and business education, Dr. Kerr brings a wealth of experience and leadership to this key position on campus.

Dr. Kerr holds a Doctor of Sport Management from the United States Sports Academy, a Master of Business Education from West Texas State University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. His extensive academic and professional background positions him to significantly contribute to the Firestorm athletic programs.

Dr. Kerr expressed his enthusiasm about the new position, stating, "I am grateful and excited for this opportunity to join the Firestorm Athletics team!  I am passionate about the worlds of intercollegiate athletics and academia and devoted to those who are immersed in those two worlds.  I look forward to growing relationships and being a great teammate for our ACU faculty and our Firestorm Athletics coaches, staff, administrators, and student-athletes."

Dr. Kerr is currently serving as a Professor in the Business Department at Arizona Christian University, a role he has held since July 2023.  Prior to joining Arizona Christian University, he enjoyed a prolific tenure at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor from 1980 to 2023. During his time there, he served as Vice President for Athletics from 2021 to 2023, where he supervised 42 full-time athletics staff and an additional 23 part-time staff, graduate assistants, and volunteers. He also managed the athletics budget for 16 athletic programs and support staff.

In addition to his role as Vice President for Athletics, Dr. Kerr was the Associate Dean of the School of Exercise and Sport Sciences from 2019 to 2021, overseeing activity course instructors and adjunct instructors. His academic career at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor includes roles as Professor of Sport Management from 2001 to 2021, with academic rank progressions from Instructor to Associate Professor and eventually Professor. He also served as Faculty Athletics Representative, Program Director for the M.S. in Sport Administration, and Coordinator for the Undergraduate Sport Management Program. Notably, Dr. Kerr was instrumental in developing both the Undergraduate Sport Management Major and the Master's in Sport Administration Program, including the majority of its curriculum.

In his new role at Arizona Christian University, Dr. Kerr will work closely with Associate Athletic Director, Keith Baker, on initiatives surrounding eligibility, compliance, and academic communications.  Dr. Kerr will serve as a key liaison between the athletics department and the academic community, ensuring that the university's athletic programs align with its mission and values. He will also play a crucial role in maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and supporting the academic and personal growth of student-athletes.

"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Kerr to our team," said Dr. Peter Dryer, Athletic Director at Arizona Christian University. "His impressive background and dedication to sports management and education make him an excellent fit for this role. We are confident that his leadership will drive our athletics program to new heights."
