Timely Bats, Steady Arms Lift Firestorm Past #10 UBC

Glendale, Ariz. – Arizona Christian University used timely hitting and a strong pitching performance to secure a 3–1 victory over the University of British Columbia on Friday night, concluding the East West Challenge tournament. Reese Vassar led ACU offensively with a two-hit performance and scored twice, while Luke Zuromski drove in two of the Firestorm's three runs. ACU matched British Columbia with five hits but made them count, pairing efficient offense with sharp pitching to complete the win.

Inside The Game
  • After three scoreless innings, the Firestorm broke through in the bottom of the fourth. 
  • Vassar sparked the rally and later came home when Zuromski grounded out to first base, giving ACU a 1–0 lead.
  • ACU added key insurance in the sixth inning, again capitalizing with runners on base. 
  • Zuromski delivered his second RBI of the night with a single up the middle to score Andrew Ivy
  • Joey Genduso followed with an RBI single to left field, extending the lead to 3–0.
  • The Firestorm pitching staff was dominant throughout the evening. 
  • Tyson Kilbreath earned the win after tossing five shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five. 
  • Jack Brooker and Mason Whiteley combined to keep the Thunderbirds off the scoreboard through the middle innings before David Gordon II closed the door in the ninth to earn his second save of the season.
  • British Columbia pushed across an unearned run in the ninth, but Gordon II worked out of the frame to secure the victory.
  • ACU won the game, 3-1.
