Thoughts from Coach Butterfield
I am extremely proud of our guys and the way they competed against a tough Providence squad on Saturday afternoon. Every one of our guys that competed stepped on the mat ready to compete, and win or lose, wrestled tough as every single match went the distance. In the end, a few matches in which we were winning late but we lost at the end were the difference in the dual. Julio Gonzales and Leo Galasso highlighted the dual, as each of them came up with top 20 ranked wins against tough competitors from Providence. Julio Gonzales defeated the #20 ranked wrestler in the country and has been on a hot streak heading into our postseason. Leo defeated the #11 ranked wrestler in the country by major decision in a match that was dominated by him from start to finish. Rico Robles also picked up a dominant win over the previous #24 ranked wrestler from Providence as well. We are thankful for Providence making the long trip down to the valley and giving us some tough competition heading into the postseason. God has been extremely good to this team this year and we are excited to see how our guys finish out the season.
