Firestorm Sweep Bucs In GSAC Series

Glendale, Ariz. –  ACU picked up a pair of wins Saturday afternoon, defeating Park–Gilbert 8–2 in game one before completing the sweep with a 6–2 victory in game two. 

In game one of the doubleheader, Zach Blair led the Firestorm at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance and two RBIs, while Andrew Ivy added two hits and an RBI. Noah Manasan also provided a spark off the bench with a triple and two runs scored. On the mound, Joey Genduso earned the win in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings. Tyler Bailey closed the game with a scoreless ninth.

In game two of the doubleheader, Manasan paced the offense with two hits and two runs scored, while Zuromski drove in two runs. Tyson Kilbreath earned the win on the mound, improving to 5–0 after striking out seven over five innings while allowing just two runs. Ty Howry and David Gordon II combined for two scoreless innings in relief to close out the sweep.

Inside Game One
  • After falling behind early, the Firestorm offense came alive in the middle innings to secure the game one victory.
  • ACU opened the scoring in the third inning when Andrew Ivy doubled down the right field line to bring home Noah Manasan
  • Park–Gilbert responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two unearned runs to take a 2–1 lead.
  • The Firestorm evened the game in the fourth when Zach Blair came home on a wild pitch before taking the lead for good in the sixth on Blair's RBI single that scored Austin Kirkpatrick.
  • ACU added insurance runs late, plating two in the seventh, two more in the eighth, and one in the ninth to pull away for the victory.
  • ACU won the game, 8-2.

Inside Game Two
  • The Firestorm carried the momentum into the nightcap behind another strong pitching performance.
  • ACU struck first in the second inning when Austin Kirkpatrick stole home to give ACU a 1–0 lead. 
  • The Firestorm extended the advantage in the third as Noah Manasan scored on a wild pitch.
  • Park–Gilbert answered with single runs in the third and fourth innings to tie the game at 2–2, but ACU quickly regained control in the fifth.
  • Zuromski delivered the big hit of the inning with a two-run double down the left field line, scoring Manasan and Marcellus Cueva
  • Later in the inning, Jacob Solis scored on a wild pitch to stretch the lead to 5–2.
  • ACU added another run in the seventh when Andrew Ivy came around to score on an error to seal the 6–2 victory.
  • ACU won the game, 6-2.
