Saturday Sweep Equals A Series Sweep

Glendale, Ariz.- Arizona Christian Softball completed a four series sweep of Benedictine Mesa by winning the twin bill on Saturday.  Brittany McCracken drove home what turned out to be the winning run in both games including a solo home run in game two.  The Redhawks outhit the Firestorm in both games but ACU pitching forced BENU to strand 19 runners on the day.

ACU Game One Stats
Inside Game One
  • The first three Firestorm batters reached (walk, double, walk) to load the bases and force a pitching change
  • McCracken was hit by the second pitch she saw to force in a run
  • Three fielder's choice and an RBI single from Glory Estabrook pushed ACU out to a 4-0 lead
  • After the Redhawks scored in top of two but McCracken answered with an RBI double to plate Grubb
  • BENU made it 5-4 in the fourth with three runs
  • Martin scored on an RBI single from Grubb for a 6-4 advantage
  • The Redhawks had lots of traffic as they left eight on base in the final three innings
  • But Herrera, Estabrook, and Grinstead worked out of trouble in the final innings

Inside Game Two
  • Grinstead recorded four outs before giving up a solo home run in the second inning
  • The run allowed ended 19.2 of scoreless innings by Grinstead- second longest in ACU history (20.2 innings by Jackie Aguilar- 2015) 
  • McCracken and Estabrook singled ahead of Bradford's 2 RBI single in the second
  • Ben Mesa tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the third
  • Grubb scored Martin with a sac fly to right in the third
  • On the very next pitch, McCracken homered over the left fence- her second of the season- for a 4-2 lead
  • The score remained the same until the Redhawks scored in the seventh
  • Grinstead picked win number nine by inducing a ground ball to end the game

Up Next
On Thursday, Arizona Christian and Nelson (AZ) will face off for a doubleheader.  The twin bill was originally scheduled as road contests for the Firestorm but the games were switched to ACU home games at the ACU Softball Field with a 4:00 pm first pitch.
