Late Rally Comes Up Short, Firestorm Settle For Split

Glendale, Ariz.- Christina Grubb and Avery Slater provided the extra base fireworks in the game one win against Nelson (AZ) on Thursday.  But a late rally came up short as ACU dropped the night cap.

Inside Game One
  • After fouling off 10 pitches, Gubb opened the scoring by crushing a home run into the tree over the left center field fence in the first
  • Nelson answered with one in the second
  • ACU countered with two in bottom of the frame (highlighted by double steal from Rachel Martin and Nadia Landeros for a run) 
  • The Warriors tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth
  • Slater doubled home Grubb for the lead
  • Two batters later, Slater scored for a 6-4 edge
  • In the sixth, Grubb tripled to right center to score Ashley Madonia and Herrera in front of her
  • Traffic reached in every inning but the first but Grinstead secured win number ten on the season

  • Villanueva cashed in Brittany McCracken with an RBI single in the second
  • The Warriors scored five unanswered in the third and fourth
  • Grubb came through with an RBI single in the sixth
  • In the seventh, Morgan Bradford walked, Lemley singled, and Martin singled to load the bases
  • Herrera singled to score two and get ACU within one
  • But the game came to an end with the tying run at third and winning run at second
  • Estabrook went the distance but was charged with the loss

The Firestorm will have the weekend off to celebrate Easter.  Next week, Arizona Christian will be in Irvine to face off with Westcliff at the Orange County Great Park- the site of the 2026 GSAC Softball Championships.
